What it signifies, by Ed Coletti
when a lurking beast halts
by itself in a shallow river
That it stands alone conveys
sadness o bestia disconsolada
despairing solitude
the disorder of this exact animal
severed from all others of its species
beast alone detached to die without
warmth from huddled bodies not
standing not even floating together
Ed Coletti studied under Robert Creeley in San Francisco (1970-71). Recent poems appear in The Brooklyn Rail, North American Review, Spillway, Big Bridge, and Kentucky Review. Most recent poetry collection The Problem With Breathing(Edwin Smith Publishing –Little Rock- 2015).
